Getting Healthy by making healthy lifestyle choices
June 07, 2012
Hi,

Did you know you can get healthy naturally by your lifestyle choices?

We are a society awash in pills. There are pills for every ailment imaginable.

Some people even suspect that some of these pills are drugs looking for diseases!

But getting healthy naturally does not have to involve drugs. The World Health Organization acknowledged recently that most diseases are the result of poor nutrition and lack of exercises.

We may also add a third-unhealthy lifestyle choices.

Being healthy naturally depends on what we do, how we do it, and even when we do it.

What do I mean by that?

We all know from experience that eating late at night can make for an unpleasant night.

Habitually staying up late at night can put you at risk for obesity, erectile dysfunction in men, diabetes, brain impairment etc.

Hard to believe, isn't it?
But there is more:

Lack of sleep is also a risk factor for depression.
Depriving yourself of sleep is therefore not the way to get healthy.

Another factor that can determine whether we get healthy or not is what may seem far fetched to some.

Did you know that eating too fast is unhealthy?
We eat in our cars, we eat in a hurry. We have deadlines to meet, meet our quota.

Really?

Have you ever wondered what would happen to the world if you were not here?
Nothing, that's what!

If you are not here, the world will still go on!!

So, what's the hurry?

People who eat fast are likely to overeat. Overeating can lead to obesity.

You won't consider overeating as a way to get healthy , would you?

When we eat, the body monitors how much food we've ingested. It then signals the brain when we are full.

The brain responds by instructing the body to shut down the hunger hormone.

When this happens, we know we are full, and we stop eating. At least, that's the way it's supposed to work.

This input from the body to the brain, and the output from the brain to the body, instructing it what to do, takes a little time.

You can get healthy and maintain your good health if you allow this rhythm to flow smoothly.

Eating too fast disrupts this rhythm; there is hardly any time for the the body-brain communications, and the required biochemical response to take place.

The result?
Overeating-because you don't know when to stop, even though your hunger has been satiated.

Consequence?
You eat too much.

Eating too fast and getting healthy do not really mix. Constant overeating may be why some people cannot lose weight.

And how about the unhealthy habit of smoking? Would you believe smoking is a risk factor for erectile dysfunction?

And listen to this:
It's hard to believe that close to 18% of men in their 20s in the US have problem with getting an erection

These are young men who should be at their most vigorous! Getting healthy naturally involves healthy lifestyle choices.

Smoking introduces into the body very toxic substances such as arsenic and cyanide-among tens of other toxins.

Smoking is hardly a healthy lifestyle choice. You cannot get healthy that way.

Smoking is a risk factor for hardening of the arteries, erectile dysfunction, heart disease, brain impairment, strokes etc.

You've seen the graphic display of its consequences on television.

If you hope to get healthy, you would quit smoking as soon as you can-if not for you, at least for the sake of your loved ones.

Our lifestyle put us at risks of diseases. But the good news is, our healthy lifestyle can also ward off diseases.

Getting healthy with healthy lifestyle choices should be the goal of everyone-without dangerous synthetic drugs.

We know what to do, we are just not doing it. Some of us are looking for a pill that would give us six pack abs on demand.

It's not going to happen.
If it did, all obese people would have gone from fat to fit in no time.

Exercises improve circulation, elevate mood, benefit the heart and brain, help in losing weight etc.

Are you one of those who worry constantly?

Most of the time, the bad things you worry about never happen.
But you've stressed yourself to almost a heart attack.

Stress is a major risk factor for a host of diseases, including heart disease, strokes, brain problems, obesity, sudden death-to name a few.

How to get healthy naturally?

  1. Eat healthy-the body needs good nutrition to survive
  2. Stop smoking
  3. Banish stress from your life-take up yoga, tai-chi, meditation, bio-feedback etc.
  4. Lose weight if you're overweight
  5. Engage in intellectual stimulation-this keeps your brain healthy and protects it against cognitive decline, especially later in life.
  6. Get adequate sleep. If nature programs us to spend a third of our lives in bed, sleep must be very important.
